Organ builder William Drake Ltd has been trading since 1974, when William Drake established the firm in Devon. We design, build, commission and restore mechanical action pipe organs. Our team, who have all been with the business for a significant number of years, have in excess of 70 years organ building experience between them. We are proud to have been involved with numerous prestigious projects including work for Her Majesty the Queen, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Palace of Westminster and Spitalfields.

William Drake learned the organ from John Wellingham at Dartington College of Arts. He became an organ builder after a visit to the St Albans International Organ Festival at St Albans Abbey as a boy. He completed an apprenticeship in Austria with Rieger Orgelbau and worked with Rudolf Janke in Göttingen.

The firm takes its inspiration from English organs of the 18th and 19th centuries when designing their organs. Our restorations are renowned for their high standards of historic accuracy. If you would like more information, please contact us.
